Woman stole thousands of kroner from the furniture giant Ikea

A 40-year-old woman was sentenced the other day for theft at Ikea. According to the judgment of the district court, which News24 learned about, the woman must have visited Ikea with her two small children on the day in question.

The woman seemed stressed and nervous

When she then passed the checkout line on her way out, she had not self-scanned all her goods. This resulted in a beeping light, causing the woman to be stopped and roped in just outside the checkout area. At the time of the arrest, the child was still sleeping in the pram.

According to a witness from the scene, the woman must have acted “stressed and nervous”.

In the room for detainees, the child, who then woke up, was allowed to leave the carriage. Then you could see several goods in the cart and all of them were covered. In total, the goods in the pram must have a total value of SEK 3,910.

The woman says she forgot the goods

In the police interrogation, the woman stated that she had been in the store with her children. She had put some goods down in one part of the double pram.

The reason for this would be that she could not drive both a pram and shopping cart at the same time, the woman said in the hearing.

She then says that one of the children must have fallen asleep in the cart, on the goods. It made her forget that she had put items in the cart that were also to be paid for.

When you went through the surveillance footage, you could see that the woman actively walked away to hide the goods in the cart and cover for them.

The district court judges that the woman has actively tried to hide the goods in the cart and believes that she should be sentenced for theft.

Sentenced to a suspended sentence and daily fines

The district court considers that there is no reason for the woman to commit new crimes. She is therefore sentenced to a suspended sentence and 40 daily fines of SEK 50, i.e. a total of SEK 2,000.
