The woman left her home last Friday evening and a day later she was reported missing.

Just hours later, she was found dead in a residential area in Njurunda.

– We are interested if you have seen anything in the area from Friday until the arrest, says Peter Vennerling, on-call preliminary investigation manager at the police.

It was late on Saturday evening that a woman in her 40s was found dead outside in a residential area of Njurunda in Sundsvall municipality.

At 23.15 a woman and a man were arrested near the crime scene. They are now under arrest on suspicion of murder or manslaughter in connection with her death.

– The man was arrested outdoors and the woman was arrested in a residence, says Peter Vennerling.

The dead woman had been reported missing earlier on Saturday evening, according to the police. She must have disappeared a day earlier.

– She left home on Friday evening, says Peter Vennerling.

Where the woman is supposed to have been going when she left her home on Friday, he does not want to comment, but there are clues they are working on.

– I can’t go into it. But there are specified details that show where she is supposed to have gone.

Denies crime

The woman arrested is in her 50s. She is a suspect on probable cause, the higher level of suspicion. The arrested man is aged 55 and is reasonably suspected, the lower level of suspicion.

Both have denied any crime in the initial interrogations.

The police are working intensively with the murder investigation. During the night, cordons were set up around a residence. A technical investigation has been carried out and the police have searched the area with special search dogs and drones. They have also done door knocking in the area.

During the Sunday afternoon, the police are done with the work at the scene.

– The roadblocks where the woman was found have been lifted. A patrol may be ready to knock on the door, says Peter Vennerling.

He describes the police investigation as “very intensive” and new interrogations are planned with the suspects during the afternoon.

Do you have any more suspects?

– What I know now is that we have two detainees, then the situation can change. But then it’s like all criminal investigations. In the beginning, you work very broadly and the dangerous thing is to focus too narrowly, says Peter Vennerling.
