Panic attacks forced a woman in Stockholm to move out of her apartment.
Until the pandemic, she had never missed a rent payment. At the time, the woman ran two stores.
But at the same time as the customers disappeared and her father became seriously ill, she was burnt out. She was diagnosed with fatigue syndrome and panic disorder.
“No reserves left”
According to the newspaper Hem & Hyra, the doctor has certified that for a period the woman was unable to open letters – then she had panic attacks or fainted.
– In the event of burnout, there are no reserves left, neither mental nor physical, says Hedvig Söderlund, adjunct professor at Luleå University of Technology to the newspaper.
At first she got help from a friend, but when that person moved, the woman’s rent savings ended up not being paid.
– The smallest demand becomes anxiety-filled and incredibly charged. The body and the brain signal danger even though it could actually be a petiteness, says Hedvig Söderlund.
Hem & Hyra writes that she has settled her rent debt – despite this, the landlord has terminated her contract. The decision has also been upheld in the Svea Court of Appeal. In May, she is forced to move.
