The couple had previously suspected that someone had been inside their apartment while they were away. Among other things, lights must have been on.
The suspicions led the couple to install a surveillance camera in the apartment. After that, they took their pick and pack and traveled to Thailand.
Once on the journey, they received a notification from the surveillance system that something was moving in the apartment. They really did see someone in the pictures, a woman – also the couple’s neighbor.
The motive: Alcohol
Hem & Hyra writes that the woman’s then-husband was the property manager in the house and therefore had a master key that could open all the apartments.
When the woman found out that the couple was away, she secretly took her husband’s key and entered the couple’s apartment. According to the verdict, her motive must have been to get wine, spirits or other alcohol. During the short time she was inside the apartment, she found a glass cabinet and grabbed several bottles.
The couple had initially intended to deal with the matter when they returned home from the trip, but when they saw that the woman entered the apartment the next day as well, they called the police.
Seeking help for alcohol abuse
Now the Luleå district court sentences the woman for theft in two cases, writes Hem & Hyra. The penalty will be probation and community service for 100 hours.
In the verdict, it appears that the woman expressed remorse and that she was very drunk on both burglaries. After the crimes, she is said to have sought help for her alcohol addiction and started the 12-step program.
