BRANTFORD A 26-year-old Brantford woman has been arrested in connection with the homicide of Brayden Ferrall.
Brantford police said Monday that, on June 9, they charged Kathleen Bacon with being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Ferrall, 22, was reported missing to police after he was last seen by friends on Feb. 18. On March 28, police said foul play was suspected in his disappearance.
On May 3, Brant OPP found Ferrall’s body in the area of Campbell Road and Old Onondaga Road East.
“The Brantford Police Service, major crime unit, continues to investigate this matter as a homicide,” Brantford police said in a news release. “At this time, police are unable to release further details surrounding the nature of the homicide and the investigative process as this is an active and ongoing homicide investigation.
“The Brantford Police Service continues to ensure that Brayden’s family receives the support they require during this difficult time. We would like to thank the public for their demonstrations of support during this investigation.”
Stephanie Sabourin, manager of corporate communications with Niagara Regional Police Service, confirmed on Monday that Niagara police have charged Bacon with attempted murder using a firearm in connection with a shooting on Feb. 2 at a Niagara Falls hotel.
A man was shot at the Howard Johnson Express Inn on Lundy’s Lane. Police have described the shooting as a targeted incident.
After the shooting, Niagara police issued arrest warrants for Bacon and 26-year-old Nieko Bodine.
The Special Investigations Unit, the province’s police watchdog, continues to investigate the “sudden death” of a 26-year-old man following an incident involving Brantford police on Feb. 23.
Shortly after midnight, officers saw a suspicious vehicle in the area of Rawdon and Gray streets that they learned had been reported stolen.
Police said the vehicle took off after they tried to pull it over, later stopping in the area of Highway 403 and Garden Avenue. The occupants – a man and a woman – then ran into a nearby field.
Police arrested a 25-year-old woman and, a short time later, found the man’s body.
Police then notified the SIU, which investigates police conduct when a member of the public is injured.
Bacon was charged on Feb. 23 with seven counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. Those charges, along with taking a vehicle and possession over $5,000, are still working their way through the courts.
