Woman accused of stealing full cart of items from Chatham Walmart store

Police investigate Wallaceburg break in

Chatham-Kent police caught up to a woman accused of leaving the Chatham Walmart store with a full cart of items she didn’t pay for.

Police were called to the store just before 1 pm Saturday after Walmart security reported the incident to police including that she had fled in a vehicle.

As officers were responding, police said the vehicle was intercepted and stopped on Third Street in Chatham.

The accused was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property under $5,000. Police said the accused was also charged with driving with a suspended licence.

She was released with a Dec. 19 short date.

Three people charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent police were kept busy dealing with three motorists that were arrested for impaired driving.

A man was arrested after police responded to a call about a driver crashing head-on into a parked vehicle in the area of ​​Young Street in Tilbury around 8:30 pm Saturday.

The driver was still on scene when officers arrived and he was arrested for impaired driving, police said.

The accused was taken to hospital with minor injuries where he also provided two breath samples, which resulted in a charge of impaired operation over 80.

Just before 11 pm Saturday, officers had just completed a RIDE program in Chatham when they saw a vehicle driving erratically on Inshes Avenue.

The vehicle pulled into a driveway and officers stopped to speak to the woman driving.

Through investigation, officers formed grounds to arrest the driver for impaired driving. She was transported to police headquarters where she refused to provide breath samples, police said.

The accused was charged with impaired operation and refusal to provide breath samples.

Another woman was also arrested for impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop on Vanier Drive in Chatham just after 1 am Sunday.

Suspecting the driver was under the influence of alcohol, police said a roadside breath test was administered, which resulted in a fail. She was arrested for impaired operation over 80 and brought the OPP station for further breath tests.

All three accused were released with a Dec. 12 court date.

Chatham-Kent police assisted by area police in arresting two men

Chatham-Kent police were assisted Saturday by Windsor police and Lakeshore OPP in arresting two men wanted in separate incidents.

Windsor police called around 8 am to report they had a 29-year-old man in custody wanted by Chatham-Kent police.

A local officer traveled to the Windsor police station and arrested the accused for theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of possession of property over $5,000.

About an hour later, Lakeshore OPP called to say they had a 22-year-old Wallaceburg male in custody wanted by Chatham-Kent police for failing to attend court.

A local officer went to the OPP detachment and arrested the accused.

Both men were released with a Jan. 9, 2023 short date.
