After reports that cats have disappeared, the county administrative board is now urging animal owners to keep their animals indoors in the evenings, nights and early mornings. But the wolves pose no danger to humans, according to Mikael Fransson, wildlife officer at the County Administrative Board.

“It often happens like this at this time of year when the young wolves leave their territory. We humans do not need to worry about ourselves, but it is important to keep dogs on a leash and not let the cat out at night,” he says in a press release.

The wolves observed belong to the Sjundareviret, which was formed in 2015 and stretches between Södertälje and Vagnhärad in the east to lake Klämmingen in the west. Several puppies have been born there during the year, but it is unclear exactly how many wolves are currently in the territory.
