In the House of Representatives, Van Kooten was a member of the Party for the Animals, from which she left after two years. After a short collaboration with Henk Krol, she founded her own party Splinter. She describes it as a ‘green, progressive, liberal, social-democratic’ party. She has been a member of the Woerden city council since 2022.
