Without doing anything 5 million workers will earn more money

The salary supplement received automatically by many employees and civil servants is increasing.

A small financial boost, perhaps forgotten by some, is coming in a few days for millions of workers. Recently, you may have railed against your employer for lack of a salary increase or because of an increase deemed insufficient. In the absence of your salary, it is another income which will be increased automatically if you receive it. And the transfer will arrive shortly in the workers’ bank accounts.

Every month, 4,848,960 people receive a salary supplement, paid by the Family Allowance Fund: this is the activity bonus. According to CAF data, the amount is, on average, 180 euros. Not everyone is eligible for this assistance, but one in six employees receive it. For many households, this is a real plus to make ends meet.

In a few days, the amount collected will be greater. Indeed, like other social benefits, the activity bonus will be increased by 4.6% from 1er next April. Thus, this should bring the average amount to around 190 euros, or 10 euros more per year (120 euros over the year).

This amount can be much higher since the premium varies depending on the composition of the household and its resources. Thus, for a couple with a child where only one parent works and earns 1,400 euros per month, the premium amounts to 700 euros and will therefore increase to 732 euros.

However, the granting of this aid is not automatic. Every three months, it is obligatory to log into your Caf online account and declare your income for the last three months, otherwise the bonus will not be paid. The amount of the benefit thus varies if income has fluctuated, for example if the 13e month was paid in one go.

Furthermore, if since your last declaration, your salary has increased, your activity bonus could stagnate (as its method of calculation is re-evaluated upwards), or decrease.

In the future, these steps could be eliminated if the promise of “solidarity at source” were to be implemented. This system would allow households to directly receive the aid to which they are eligible thanks to the transmission of their income to social benefit organizations. Today, around one in three people who are eligible for the activity bonus do not receive it because they did not request it.
