In Dragon Age: The Veilguard you can choose from three classes and nine specializations. We’ll show you a strong mage build with a focus on a specific specialization.
How do magicians play? If you want to forego the sword of a warrior or the daggers of a villain and prefer to use magic to fight your opponents, this class is perfect for you. Nevertheless, you are spoiled for choice in the skill tree and when it comes to specialization, you should decide on an orientation.
In our guide we will show you a build that chooses the “Deathcaller” specialization. Thanks to your necrotic abilities, you can make short work of your opponents.
Skills for the Mage build
How do you skill the magician? Starting from the middle of the skill tree, you have a variety of active and passive skills that you can equip. The following are particularly recommended if you are playing as a Deathcaller.
The best skills for the magician before level 20
Which skills are good? In the skill tree you first have to work your way up to specialization. It can only be unlocked at level 20 anyway. The following skills are practical to start with:
These two skills can help you, especially at the beginning. With the fire wall you are also on the way to the skills for the death caller in the top left corner of the skill tree. Work your way through the “Mourning Watch” section, with skills you can use to weaken enemies and deal continuous damage.
With the skills you unlock here, the necrotic damage increases and you cause more damage over larger areas. The following are particularly important here:
The best skills for the magician after level 20
How do you continue skilling? If you have reached the death caller specialization in the skill tree at level 20, simply unlock it. This doesn’t cost any skill points. Then focus on the following skills:
So you already have a very good foundation before you move on to the final skills in the tree from level 30.
The best skills for the magician after level 30
From level 30 you can unlock additional skills. The following is recommended here:
So you are well skilled. The remaining points can be distributed among other skills as desired.
Equipment and enchantments
What weapons does the magician use? The class uses staffs for long distances and mage knives and orbs for closer targets. It is important to manage your mana because special abilities use it up. You can see how much mana you currently have in combat mode below your skills.
Staff, mage knife and orb
Which weapons are good? Basically you have a free choice here, but it is still advisable to play a staff or a knife with necrotic damage as a death caller. An example of this would be the “Veil Seeker” staff. In addition to necrotic damage, it also causes a high level of stumbling.
A good magician’s knife is the “Sorcerer’s Stiletto”, which can be purchased from the Crows of Antiva, one of the six factions. It provides additional mana regeneration and defense.
A suitable orb is “Veilsong”, which also causes necrotic damage. It also provides +25% stumbling.
Armor for the magician
Which armors are good? All classes can wear all types of armor. It’s best to make sure that your armor strengthens the skills used and the damage type. A good defense should not be neglected, as opponents prefer to pounce on you.
On the head you get 15% more mana regeneration with the “Carastes Double Hat”.
Other equipment
What else is there? We recommend the following items as additional equipment:
Enchantments
Which enchantments are good? You can enchant your equipment in the Workshop in addition to normal upgrades. You can also enchant individual abilities. The following is worth it:
If you follow all these steps, you will face the dark spawn and all other enemies with a strong magician. Emmrich is very suitable as a companion because he also works in the field of necrosis.
