With the success of FaceApp which allows you to discover

With the success of FaceApp, which allows you to discover what our face will look like in the future, Greenpeace has decided to launch its own application, EarthApp, to show what the Earth will look like in 50 years. And there is nothing to rejoice about…

Internet users could not miss the success of FaceApp, which offers users the opportunity to discover an older version of themselves. LONG Greenpeace decided to take advantage of this enthusiasm to carry out a prevention campaign and mobilize Internet users thanks to EarthApp, an application showing the before/after of Russian landscapes and their evolution in 50 years. “You can easily recognize friends, even in aged photos in FaceApp, but if you go back decades, you’ll barely recognize the Arctic“, writes Greenpeace Russia on her Instagram account. She writes that “humanity can no longer burn coal, oil and gas out of control, as if tomorrow would never come“. A way of trying to make people aware of the impact of our actions and that the worst is yet to come, if we don’t change the way we consume.

EarthApp: Unrecognizable landscapes in 50 years

The NGO relied on scientific studies to imagine what the landscapes of Russia will look like in 2050. And the least we can say is that there will be change. In effect, “the maximum temperature of the hottest month of the year in Moscow by 2050 could increase by 5.5°C“, warns Greenpeace. As a result, lakes will dry up, glaciers will melt, polar bears will disappear, water levels will rise and flood coastal cities. Greenpeace Russia has therefore decided to publish before/after images of known places in Russia, such as Lake Baikal, the mountains of Sochi, Moscow, Saint Petersburg or the forests of Siberia on his Instagram account. Each post is accompanied by messages of prevention, which urge action.A striking illustration of the consequences years of deforestation, urbanization and global warming. The streets of Saint Petersburg will be flooded, which will wipe out vegetation, cars and humans. The NGO explains that “climate change leads to sea level rise and flooding in cities“.

Lake Baikal in Siberia will experience a significant rise in temperature. As a result, the water will completely disappear and give way to a barren, lifeless land. “Due to the daily impact of humans on the climate, precipitation is redistributed: some regions become wetter, others dry out“, alert Greenpeace.

Ditto for the ski slope in Sochi, which is completely deserted. The snow will melt, the slopes will empty and the resort will be abandoned. “Due to greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, our planet is heating up and changing its appearance very quickly“, indicates Greenpeace.

At the North Pole, say goodbye to polar bears and glaciers. Climate change will completely melt the ice floes, transforming them into a vast expanse of seawater… And these are just a few examples on Russian territory.
