With the current fuel supply problems, it becomes difficult to find a service station to refuel. Here is a selection of sites and applications that will tell you the status of points of sale.
Energy is at the heart of the debates for this start of the 2022 school year. In particular for fuels. To the general rise in prices that has marked the past few months, with the resumption of post-Covid economic activity and the war in Ukraine, there are currently serious supply problems in France with the strike in several refineries. . Result: many service stations are no longer supplied and close their pumps, while those who still have reserves are taken by storm, generating long queues and even tensions. And more and more motorists, who panic at the prospect of running out of fuel, are looking for stations that are supplied with petrol or diesel.
To avoid wandering the roads, looking for an open outlet – and wasting the last drops of fuel – there are specialized apps and online services that not only show the prices of fuels – which have started to rise again, both because of oil prices and the shortage – but also their availability at stations. Here is our selection of tools to compare prices and find open points of sale.
Fuel prices: the official government website
On the official government website Fuel prices, it is the service stations that provide their prices, with control by the DGCCRF. The Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention thus ensures that the prices advertised on the site are correct: otherwise, it is always possible to report them. The search is geolocated, by selecting one or more fuels. It is also possible to compare prices on a given route. Convenient when you want to plan a long trip, especially since motorway prices are on average higher than elsewhere. There is no application but the search module is suitable for mobile consultation.
Diesel Now: compare prices and check availability
Available for iOS and Android, Gasoil Now is user-friendly. After having entered the type of vehicle used and the desired fuel, the app presents on a map the prices practiced in the surroundings thanks to geolocation (it also asks for other authorizations concerning the use of your personal data but you are free to refuse without this disrupting its operation). Gasoil Now also allows you to check fuel availability. Ideal in times of shortage for example, especially since the information is updated in real time by users. The operation is similar to that of the collaborative map gas stations running out of fuel. This can be very useful! In addition, Gasoil Now also allows you to establish a route to the targeted service station using a navigation app such as Maps or Waze.

Essence & Co: users to the rescue
The Essence & Co app available for iOS and Android presents the list of petrol stations closest to you after activating location on your device. The application asks for many permissions by default to save your data but you are absolutely not obliged to grant them. After entering the type of fuel sought, it displays a table including the prices observed for the different fuels, specifying the date of the reading. These can be updated directly by users. The sheet of each station also details the services offered on site. In addition to the list, there is also a map to assess the distances. It is even possible to set a search radius between 1 and 50 km. Note, an Itinerary function immediately allows you to present the route to reach the station using a navigation app present on the mobile such as Maps or Waze for example.

By choosing a reference city or by opting for geolocation, Carb delivers the names, addresses and fares of the nearest stations. The results are presented in the form of an interactive map, coupled with a list of stations with their addresses and practical information. Ideal for viewing prices and services at a glance, especially since it is possible to choose your reference fuel. The prices are entered by the operators of the stations, and verified by the community of users. The site also has an advantage: it offers to follow the evolution of the average price of each fuel over the past year. The service does not offer an application to download but is quite suitable for reading on mobile.
Zagaz: prices in France and around
Zagaz offers the same type of information as on similar sites: the comparison of fuel prices around your home, and the evolution of prices. But the platform highlights its members more willingly (it indicates that it has 70,000), with a more developed “community” space. Registered Internet users also have access to practical tools to participate in updating information with statement sheets. We also appreciate the presence of a price statement from neighboring countries which may be more interesting depending on the taxes applied. A small calculation tool also offers check the possible savings in fuel by comparing several departments. The interface of the website, like that of the app (only available on Android) seems quite dated and you will have to be careful to monitor the update dates of the prices indicated (some date from last year).
