Day in and day out they are on the road to keep the city and the canals clean. But not this week. Hundreds of employees who work at the city cleaning of the municipality of Utrecht will stop working this week. They want more wages, because inflation makes it increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet. “The heating at home is lower than inflation,” says garbage collector Stijn Kerkhoven. He is one of the people who – with a heavy heart – is on strike today.
