    According to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, the multiplication of crises (natural and technological) has led to a reassessment of alert systems. With FR-Alert, your phone will now warn you as soon as you are in a danger zone.

    If the recent crises and threats (Lubrizol, Covid-19, fires and natural disasters, etc.) have had at least one positive impact, it is to highlight the need to quickly transmit information and the action to be taken to all persons concerned. This is why the French State has officially launched the FR-Alert program, a tool for alerting and informing populations by mobile phone which complements existing systems.

    Target your phones in real time

    This technology, which goes through your operator, does not require any specific installation on mobile phones. On the other hand, it allows the massive and rapid sending of notifications, alerts or priority information compared to traditional communications, in the face of natural and technological risks as well as the effects of threats.

    The device will act through 4 quick steps:

    • The drafting of a message by the competent authority on the State alert portal;
    • Dissemination of the alert to mobile operators;
    • The transmission of the alert to the antennas of the network covering the danger zone;
    • Receiving an alert notification on mobiles in the danger zone via a specific sound signal, even if the mobile phones are offline.

    A fairly wide field of action

    The different categories of events for which the FR-Alert system can be activated are based on the categories defined by the common alert protocol (CAP), standard for exchange between public authorities and the different types of operators broadcasting alert messages:

    • Meteorology (floods, storms, etc.);

    • Fires or conflagrations (forest fires, industrial fires, etc.);

    • Geophysics (earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.);

    • Infrastructures (failure of hydraulic works, interruption of networks, etc.);

    • Transport (road, rail, maritime, air accidents, etc.);

    • Nuclear, radiological, biological, chemical or explosive (NRBCE);

    • Internal security and national security (attacks, murderous journey, etc.);

    • Health (epidemics, food crises, etc.);

    • Events involving public safety.

    At the same time, a plan to raise awareness and inform the population about this new tool and the actions to take in the event of the national alert system being triggered will soon be deployed.
