The Witcher from the game series of the same name is not exactly young. How old he actually is has now finally been officially confirmed.
The story of Witcher is one in which many things are hidden. Not everything is explained in every detail – a lot is mysterious or mystical, there are numerous secrets. In some cases this even affects the protagonists, as some details have never been known for decades.
This also included the age of Geralt, the protagonist, the eponymous “Witcher”. Now his age has been revealed and it’s clear: he’s already a bit of an old geezer.
The trailer for the next Witcher game can be found here:
What became known? In the story of The Witcher, Geralt was born in 1211. Since the action of Witcher 3 takes place in 1272, Geralt is already 61 years old at this point. However, he still swings his swords quite convincingly.
Where does the information come from? The information comes from the latest Witcher novel “Rozdroze krukow” (roughly translated as “Raven Crossroads”). In it, the age of the protagonist was officially confirmed for the first time and discussed in the Witcher subreddit.
Particularly amusing: This creates a fairly large age difference between Geralt and Yennefer. Because the good Yen already has a few more years under her belt – she is 38 years older than Geralt, born in 1173.
Like pretty much all magicians in the Witcher universe, she doesn’t show her age. Otherwise, this would have given some spicy scenes in The Witcher 3 a completely different look and one or two scenes would perhaps no longer be forgotten for other reasons.
The fact that Geralt is already close to retirement age is probably one of the reasons why Witcher 4 will no longer be primarily about him, but about Ciri. Even if this decision is associated with completely different discussions and concerns within the community.
