An ice storm is possible late Wednesday and into Thursday for the Sarnia area, Environment Canada says.
It issued a winter storm watch Tuesday morning about a Colorado low with the potential to bring prolonged freezing rain to areas of Southwestern Ontario, including Sarnia and the rest of Lambton County.
The national weather service said the storm may begin as snow or ice pellets before changing into freezing rain late Wednesday.
But, it added, there’s uncertainty about the exact location and timing of any freezing rain, as well as how much might fall.
Potential hazards include ice buildup, slippery roads and sidewalks, as well as utility outages, the service said.
Bluewater Power said in a social media post Tuesday that its crews are preparing for the potential storm and pointed customers to its website – bluewaterpower.com/power-outages – for tips about how to prepare for electricity outages.
