Winter baths have no long-term health effects

Ice cold news for all winter bathers.
It does not produce long-term health effects, according to new research.
It is difficult to find large effectssays the physiologist Håkan Westerblad to SR.

Winter swimming is very popular and many describe it as a way to be in the present. Those who have tried and got hooked describe the positive health effects of the cold shock.

But now new findings are coming. New research shows that winter bathing has no tangible long-term health effects, reports among other things SR.

– Those who do winter bathing think when you ask them that everything gets better in some way, the physiologist Håkan Westerblad told the radio.

Train strength and conditioning instead

It is according to a new meta-study that the results came out, where researchers compiled the effect of the cold bath on the body.

The results of several studies have been reviewed over a longer period. Those studies examined, among other things, blood pressure, fatigue and ability to concentrate. In the compilation, one could not see any long-term positive effects on the body as many might think.

Håkan Westerblad has read the study himself and does not give much for winter bathing. He believes that you should rather spend your time on strength and cardio training if you want the health effects.

– It’s almost a bit religious. But when you try to objectively look at it, there is not that much going on. It is difficult to find large effects, he tells SR.
