Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves suspect they got married unwillingly

Almost anything can happen on film sets, including, apparently, an involuntary marriage. At least that’s what Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves say when they filmed Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1992 married unknowingly became.

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder address each other as husband and wife

Back in 2018, Ryder explained to Entertainment Weekly:

We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to God, I think we’re really married. In the wedding scene, director Francis Ford Coppola cast a real Romanian priest. He has [die ganze Zeremonie] carried out. So I assume we are married.

In a scene from Coppola’s horror adaptation Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Ryder’s character Mina travels to Romania to marry her beloved Jonathan (Reeves), who is believed to be dead. Coppola left the scene in a Greek Orthodox church in Los Angeles, according to the Guardian with a real clergyman turn. He also apparently thinks Ryder and Reeves are technically married.

Three years later, Reeves couldn’t help but agree with the two in an Esquire video: “Winona says it’s us. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married.

Whether their marriage scene actually has binding force in church rules or secular laws remains to be seen. The two stars, who have been good friends for several decades, take it with humor, as Ryder recently revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. This is expressed, among other things, in birthday text messages:

I wrote: ‘Congratulations my husband’explains Ryder. ‘And he replied, ‘Hey, wife! I love you.’
