– I’m so happy, thank you so much Sweden for voting! says Marcus minutes after the announcement as both twins cried with happiness.
Marcus & Martinu’s clubby, “matrix-inspired” number was the favorite and was also the number that met with the biggest cheers among the 27,000 visitors at Friends Arena.
The entry “Unforgettable” won by far when they received 92 points from the Swedish people and 85 points in the jury vote.
– The fact that the international jury voted for us bodes well for the coming Eurovision, but also that Sweden wants us to represent them, says Martinus and continues:
– We are so grateful and we will make Sweden proud.
Second place to Medina
The duo Medina, who have topped the streaming charts for some time now with the contribution “Que Sera”, takes home second place.
– This is a win, second in all of Sweden! says one half of the duo, Sami Daniel Rekik.
First completely foreign group
For the first time in Mello’s history, a completely foreign group is now winning – but it is not the first time a Norwegian artist has won Melodifestivalen.
The last time it happened was when Chips won with “Dag efter dag” in 1982, where Elisabeth Andreassen and Kicki Danielsson were responsible for the vocals. Andreassen was indeed born in Gothenburg, but as a Norwegian citizen.
Marcus & Martinus already competed last year with the entry “Air” which finished second after Loreen’s “Tattoo”.
