Windows Defender causes performance loss on Intel processors

Windows Defender causes up to 6 percent performance loss on Intel processors, the cause of the problem is a bug.

Windows Defender can cause up to 6 percent performance loss on Intel processors. The developer of programs such as RealTemp and ThrottleStop, Kevin Glynn, also known as “Uncle Webb”, stated that this problem is a bug encountered in Windows 10 and 11. The error is caused by Windows Defender randomly using the performance sets of Intel processors out of the blue, causing conflicts between programs.

Windows Defender causes around 6 percent performance loss on Intel processors

Uncle Webb states that he saw a 6 percent performance decrease in his tests with his own processor Intel Core i9 10850K, and that this problem appeared in processors produced in 2008 and later. Glynn also witnessed scenarios where Windows Defender caused a 4 percent loss, and did not encounter any problems with AMD Ryzen processors.

Uncle Webb stated that if you do not actively monitor your processor status, you cannot predict when the error will occur. According to Kevin Glynn, this error can occur anytime from the moment you turn on your device. While the easiest solution to this problem seems to be disabling Windows Defender, keep in mind the fact that this is a risky decision.
Previously, AMD processors caused performance loss in Windows 11, and it was stated that the problem was caused by Windows 11 overloading AMD processors.
