The builds of Windows 11 follow each other, but are not alike. The latest, stamped 22567, has just been deployed within the developer channel for members of Microsoft’s Insider program.

On the program of celebrations, this new version brings its share of new features, starting with the Windows Update update module which will be based on a precise schedule to favor the use of renewable energies.

Microsoft also introduces in its OS a subscription manager in the Settings and tests Smart App Controla security feature that is supposed to monitor the apps you install.

Greener updates

With the build 22567, Microsoft wants to make Windows 11 a bit more eco-friendly operating system. To achieve this, the Redmond company has just changed the way Windows Update works. The OS update module will now schedule the download and installation of updates at specific times of the day.
Since the electricity that comes into our homes comes from multiple sources, Microsoft will ensure, as much as possible, that updates are installed in the background when the electricity supplied is from renewable sources. To get there, the Redmond firm will rely on regional data provided by its partners electricityMap and WattTime.

A message ” Windows Update is restricted to help reduce carbon emissions. will be displayed at the bottom of Windows Update when the feature is available.

Management of subscription payment methods

After inaugurating Microsoft 365 subscription management in Windows 11 Account Settings to allow you to view the remaining space on OneDrive and access your billing information, Microsoft wants to go further.
You will now be able to configure your payment information directly in Windows 11 and will be notified as soon as it is necessary to update them to prevent your subscription from being accidentally suspended due to an expired credit card, for example.

Users who have not subscribed to Microsoft 365 will be able to directly access the free versions of the Office applications online to which they are entitled from the page Account in Windows 11 Settings.

Installing apps under control

Microsoft is testing a new security feature in this build of Windows 11. Smart App Control (BAG), is a module designed to automatically block applications considered untrustworthy or potentially malicious. This system, which can only be activated after performing a “clean” installation of the build 22567 (not from Windows Update therefore), is currently in “evaluation” mode.

This means that this module will rely on your use of the machine to determine if it can help you protect it, without interfering too much with your use and will therefore be automatically activated.
However, if it interferes with your use too much, it will be automatically disabled, Microsoft says in its blog post. Anyway, as long as Smart App Control is in “evaluation” mode, the user can activate it manually in the Windows Security panel.

The Redmond firm also continues to work on the Start menu. Now when you overlay two pinned apps, a small animation showing that a folder is about to be created is displayed.

Finally, multi-finger touch gestures are also evolving. Microsoft has included animations that are reactive and follow the movement of your fingers.
