Wilma Murto may end up with a tough decision –

Pole vaulter Wilma Murto may miss the entire upcoming indoor season.

As the year changes, the indoor athletics season also approaches. Pole vaulter Wilma Murto has sometimes competed even before the turn of the year, for example in the early part of his career.

This winter, Murto may not be seen in action at all. Coach Jarno Koivunen tells Urheilu that Murto may miss the upcoming hall season completely.

If Murto competes in the government period, the bet is minimal. At least in January, he doesn’t compete once.

– It may be that you don’t jump at all during the government period. Let’s take it from the point of view of training, says Koivunen.

Murro’s background group has not put the winter plans on hold once and for all. However, according to Koivunen, it is likely that the European champion will not be seen in either of the prestigious events of the indoor track season.

The hall season is exceptional in that the EC halls are organized at the beginning of March and the WC halls a couple of weeks later.

26-year-old Murto is the champion of the previous EC indoor competitions. In the trophy cabinet, you can also find the EC outdoor track gold from 2022 and the WC bronze from last year.

In recent years, Murto has toured international indoor competitions diligently.

– This has been going on for many years. Indoor competitions and summer competitions, indoor competitions and summer competitions. Now is a good time to get yourself in good shape, Koivunen says.

Fix the seats

According to Koivunen, the beginning of Murro’s training season has included “normal autumn training”.

The Finn’s past year slowed down due to injuries.

At the Paris Olympics, he was seventh after bending his summer best of 470. The foundations for the most important event of his career so far were far from the best.

– Because there were a lot of injuries last season, we started doing basic training. The places must be put in order for sure. Basic training was added in the fall, says Koivunen.

Instead Elina Lampela aims for government. Rauli Pudasen The coach from Oulu Pyrinnö’s jumper was surprisingly fourth at the European Championships in Rome. Murto was only eighth there.
