The pole vaulting competition held in Turku in February will bring the international tops of the sport to Turkuhalli.

The biggest star of the competition is the European champion and World Championship bronze medalist Wilma Murto.

In return, Murto gets, among other things, the Canadian record, 482, jumped by Alysha Newman. Murro’s Finnish record is 485.

– He can be a tough opponent. Nice to have him here, says Murto.

What makes the competition special for Murro is that there are few home competitions in the international top jumper’s competition calendar.

– There is a special pressure to jump well and offer circus fun to the audience, he laughs.

Domestic jumpers are also included Elina Lampela and Saga Andersson. Both are currently in the top 20 in Europe.

The competition is organized by the Paavo Nurmi Games organization. PNG’s goal is to have six pole vaulters ranked among the top 20 in the world.

The venue is Turkuhalli, better known as a hockey rink.
