William Poromaa’s unexpected move – lends his support to the proposal laughed at in the skiing world: “Worth lifting”

The proposal has been totally condemned in the skiing world.
But now William Poromaa is giving his support.
– It’s worth lifting, he says.

Cross-country skiing has big challenges ahead, and the smaller nations are having a tough time financially and with the growth of the skiers. Nations such as Switzerland, France, Italy and Great Britain are struggling to get their economies together.

Heavily sawn

In previous years, profiles and various leaders in cross-country skiing have highlighted that it may be time to give up classic skiing in order to level the playing field. And in the past week, another controversial proposal has generated considerable debate within the sport.

The long distance manager in Switzerland, Guri Knotten, said that there should be a single alpine team in classic skiing – so that everyone rides with the same skis. This is exactly how it works in roller skis, but the proposal has not been received entirely positively. Sweden’s election chief, among others, has seen the proposal.

– It is the same as saying that we should stop going classic skiing, Petter Myhlback told Expressen.

Supports the proposal

But not all are negative. William Poromaa now believes that he is positive about the proposal.

– If everyone were to go on the same ramps, I think the smaller countries would save incredible money and it would be more even. We talk a lot about some nations having it tougher and we have to get everyone on board. This is an issue that is worth raising, says William Poromaa to SVT.

He continues:

– We already have this when we roller ski. This is an issue worth raising.

National team teammate Calle Halfvarsson also believes that the proposal is worth thinking about.

– It would make this sport fairer. It must be possible to get 60 pairs of skis if we run 60 people in the World Cup. Then it is possible to solve that you have skis that are very similar, he says.
