Next season’s big goal is to win the World Cup.
Then William Poromaa knows what he needs to do to get there.
– It will be an important thing for me going forward, he says to SVT Sport.
William Poromaa, 22, made his debut as an 18-year-old in the World Cup. Then it was 55th place in 15 kilometers in Falun. Poromaa also jumped in during a World Cup race the following season. When it came time for the 2021/2022 season, Poromaa was called to the World Cup premiere, and since then he has been an obvious part of the Swedish national team.
Poromaa’s goal
Today, the 22-year-old has a WC bronze in the 50 kilometer classic from the WC in Planica 2023. He also has two WC silver in the relay and 50 kilometer freestyle, from the WC in Kalix 2021. Poromaa has also achieved four podium places in the World Cup. But there has never been a victory in the World Cup.

Ahead of the 2023/2024 ski season, a win in the World Cup is now William Poromaa’s big goal to achieve in the coming season. And he probably won’t get a better opportunity for just that, as it’s a championship-free year. The riders will thus be able to focus one hundred percent on the World Cup.
Hard self-awareness
Poromaa’s best placing in the World Cup last year was three third places, in 10 kilometer freestyle and 20 kilometer classic. With that experience, William now knows what to bet on to reach first place.
– It is important to be well prepared for the competitions. I think I learned a lot from last year, that I really have to decide before where and when it will be decided during the competitions, and take that with me and be even more on the cutting edge, says Poromaa to SVT Sport.

He continues:
– I think it will be an important thing for me going forward now, to be very careful in analyzing, for example, the endings of the competitions and that part. So I think that is something that I have to get even better at.
The cross-country skiing season kicks off November 24-26 with the first leg of the World Cup in Ruka, Finland.
