William Poromaa tells which is his favorite team

As a cross-country skier, you have a lot of focus on yourself as an individual.
But William Poromaa still has a fondness for team sports. In fact, there is one club that his heart beats a little extra for.

Already as an 18-year-old got William Poromaa the chance to debut in the World Cup, in March 2019. However, it took a year and a half before he was a permanent resident in the Swedish senior squad seriously. Since then, he has been one of the country’s best men and he has, among other things, ended up on the podium four times in the World Cup and picked up the much-anticipated WC bronze in the five-mile in Planica 2023.

It is William Poromaa’s favorite team

Despite the fact that he himself is involved in a sport where there is a lot of focus on the individual, although you can compete in relays and in national teams, Poromaa has a greater interest in sports that also includes team sports. In fact, he has a favorite team in a completely different sport than the one he competes in. Anyone who has an eye on Poromaa’s private life may also understand that there is a geographical connection to the club selection.

The 23-year-old was born high up in Malmberget, outside Gällivare, in Lapland. He later moved with his family to Fränsta in Ånge municipality. From there it is not very far to Sundsvall, where William Poromaa actually lives right now. Therefore, the favorite team does not come as a surprise.
– I follow Timrå, I’m probably mostly now in the SHL. So we say them then, he answers Sportbibeln’s questions about favorite teams.

Timrå is currently sixth in the SHL table and has done well under the new coach Olli JokinenFinnish former NHL pro. They are only four points behind Färjestad, who are second in the table. – Really, he (Olli Jokinen) is a really nice player and it feels like he got a good run on the guys in the team. It feels safe, says William Poromaa.

Do you usually watch their matches at SCA Arena? You who still live in Sundsvall.
– Yes, I probably do anyway. Then it’s like during the season there’s a risk of infection, so I still try to stay away from it. I usually sit in lodges sometimes to avoid sitting in a crowd. I follow them diligently from a distance anyway, he explains.
