William Poromaa reveals the big dream – the WC hero’s honest confession: “It would be absolutely wonderful”

William Poromaa is coming off the best season of his career so far.
Now the WC hero from Planica reveals his big dream for the future.
– It would be incredibly big and something that I hope for, he says to SVT Sport.

Last season got William Poromaa his big breakthrough on the international ski scene. He has long been a giant talent with high expectations of him, and last winter he finally got to show off his great potential.

Poromaa’s success

Finally, he took Swedish cross-country skiing on the men’s side back to the top again and showed everyone how to do it on the slopes. The big highlight of the season was, of course, the 2023 World Ski Championships in Planica, and the 22-year-old had to fight hard at first.

After several medal misses, the great euphoria came in the very last race of the championship when Poromaa sprinted home a much-anticipated WC bronze to Sweden in the classic five-mile. The first career medal for William and the first WC medal on the men’s side after many years without.

William’s dream

Right now, William Poromaa is fully charging for the upcoming ski season, but if he can think a little further ahead than that, a big dream looms several years from now. Namely, a possible Winter Olympics on Swedish soil.
– That would be absolutely wonderful. WC 2027 we have. To possibly get the Olympics in 2030 would be very big. Hopefully many would benefit from it all over Sweden, he tells SVT Sport.

Sweden continues to work on its Olympic application until 2030 and for Poromaa it would have been a dream come true if he gets to represent Sweden in Sweden during an Olympic Games.
– An Olympics on home ground, not many get to experience it. It would be incredibly big and something that I hope goes through, he tells the TV channel.

Swedish men’s skiing’s brightest star would then be 30 years old and hopefully William Poromaa will be at his very best by then, if all goes well.
– Clearly the thoughts are there and in 2030 I will hopefully be at the peak of my career. To be able to do it at home would mean a hell of a lot, they’ve been looking forward to that even now, says the 22-year-old in the interview.
