William Poromaa is coming off a fantastic season where he had a big, international breakthrough to say the least. Poromaa has long been a super talent in cross-country skiing, but showed during the past season that he can compete against the very best in the world.
Beautiful nickname
A receipt for that came not least during the WC’s five-mile, when Poromaa won Sweden’s first championship medal on the men’s side in many years, and also his first in his career. The bronze medal has clearly given more flavor, and next winter the whole of Sweden hopes that he will take a further step, and take up the fight with the Norwegians in the World Cup.
Right now, Poromaa is in hard training for the upcoming season, but there will also be a lot of TV playing. Poromaa’s interest in playing video games is well documented, and he has previously stated that he always carries the console with him during competitions in Europe. But should you end up in the same lobby as Poromaa in any game, it will be difficult to know that it is him you are meeting. He has a nickname there that few know about.

“Always followed”
In a television interview with Expressen, Poromaa reveals the truth about why he is called “Stygg-Janne”.
– It’s just an alias I have, so I don’t know where it comes from, but that’s my name in the games, he says, and continues:
– Naughty is a slang word that has always stuck with our circle of friends.
But where does Janne come from? According to Poromaa himself, it is a perfect fit for the Swedish national football coach, Janne Andersson.
– You like Janne Andersson. Maybe it’s after him?, says Poromaa and laughs.
