But now comes decisions that arouse emotions in Sweden.
When the SM competitions in Västerås are completely messed up.
Right now, our Swedish national cross-country skiers are preparing for the coming winter and a new season on the slopes. In several places around the country, skiers compete on roller skis to keep going during the summer.
Poromaa refuses
On Wednesday, it’s time for the Roller Ski Championship to be decided in Västerås. But sadly, the Swedish skiing elite will not attend due to several reasons.

It’s about far too bad conditions when it comes to the competition, how the competition courses look and the lack of prize money which means that the Swedish national ski team’s biggest names are snubbing the competitions. William Poromaa is one of those who refuses to show up at the SM.
– I don’t have time to travel and it’s usually on flat tracks, it’s not a great training session and it’s always a risk to roller ski, says “Wille” to SVT.
– Should it be the case that you attract with good conditions in the form of courses and also prize money, you will attract skiers. You have to show the riders that we all have something to gain from this if you show up.
Indicates noobs
The Swedish Skiing Association would like the national team skiers to compete at the SC, but will not force the cross-country skiers or have it as a requirement. Both Poromaa and also Edwin Anger could have considered running if the conditions changed.
– I have no goal to win SC gold in roller skiing, of course it would have been fun, but that is not what I strive for. It is in the winter that I will go fast and take podium places and then I will do everything for that, says Anger to the television channel.
– It is possible to make it more popular. If more people got there, there would be more hype around it. If I’m going to participate now, I won’t get much out of it, I won’t be able to measure myself against those I’ll be competing against this winter, says Anger.

The skiers’ tough decision will probably arouse emotions around the country. But the organizer Västerås ski club does not want to criticize the national team skiers who stay away from the SM races.
– We are not very used to arranging this kind of thing, we have no references. We do it mostly as a fun thing, says Thomas Hidmanchairman of Västerås ski club, in a statement.
