William Nylander had three assists as his Toronto crushed top-of-the-table San Jose 7-1 in NHL action tonight.
In-form Elias Pettersson also scored in Vancouver’s victory against the New York Islanders.
The first point came barely 17 minutes into the first period, when Nylander – despite courting from two defenders – from the blue line managed to find Morgan Rielly in front of the goal, who sent the puck over Kaapo Kähkönen’s right shoulder.
Just half a minute later, it was time for another assist, when Nylander and Mitchell Marner combined to ensure that Auston Matthews extended the lead in numerical superiority.
Holmberg’s first goal
Teammate Pontus Holmberg was also noted for points when, with his first goal of the season, he extended the home lead to 4–0 at the beginning of the middle act.
Nylander’s last point for this time came after a messy situation in front of the goal in the last period and meant 6–1.
