Toronto’s shooting king William Nylander delivered two goals and two assists when Philadelphia was crushed 7-2 in the night’s NHL.
28-year-old Swede has scored 40 goals this season, the second most in the entire league.
He has scored over 40 goals three seasons in a row – which is a achievement that only Markus Näslund has passed before all Swedes.
Just Edmontons Leon Draisaitl have scored more goals than William Nylander28, this season, 49. Nylander has in turn made 40.
– He is very fun to play with, says the teammate John Tavares About the Swede.
– He has a fantastic year and 40 goals are difficult to get, so he has obviously achieved a lot.
First Swede since Markus Näslund
It is the third season in a row that Nylander crosses the 40 border. He is the fourth Toronto player who managed to score 40 goals or more in the basic series three seasons in a row. Among the Swedish NHL players of all time it is only Markus Näslund51, which achieved this earlier, between the years 2000 and 2003.
– Of course, it feels pretty cool that just another Swedish has succeeded with it before. It is an achievement, Nylander tells the journalists after the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He laughs a little and then says something that people love. He thinks he wants to earn himself his salary.
– But I’m just trying to do what I get paid to do and my focus is on the playoffs. That’s all that matters right now, he says.
Have the chance to beat Håkan Loob’s record
William Nylander now has eleven matches to set its record of 40 goals and may even succeed in reaching Håkan Loob’s legendary Swedish record of 50 goals, which was set a full 37 years ago.

The 2023/2024 season was Filip Forsberg30, close to beating Loob’s record, but he stayed at 48. It is the third best result of a Swedish ever, he shares that position with just Markus Näslund. Kenta Nilsson is second on the list with 49 goals.
– It was a bit boring with cod. But, yes, 48 goals you must be happy with. Fun to have received some dividends during the season, Forsberg said.
Big congratulations to the milestone, William. Of course, it is powerful to succeed with 40+ for three straight seasons. Go on so!
