William Nylander great match hero in extra time last night – despite illness(!)

William Nylander was still sidelined with a cold.
Then the star Swede could still decide for Toronto when the team needed him the most.

Swedish William Nylander scored the decisive goal as his Toronto beat Philadelphia 4-3 in NHL ice hockey Friday night.

The goal, which William Nylander scored 54 seconds into overtime, was an all-Swedish story. Toronto’s Timothy Liljegren passed to William Nylander, who in turn shot the puck between the shin pads of Philadelphia’s Swedish goalkeeper Samuel Ersson.

Nylander admits he was still groggy after catching a cold earlier in the week.

With the win, Toronto ended Philadelphia’s four-game winning streak.

For William Nylander it was the 27th goal of the season and with his 41 assists he has scored a total of 68 points.

Success for the new Swedish chain

On Friday morning Swedish time, the Vancouver Canucks also won against the Detroit Red Wings with 4–1.

Behind the win was the Swedish trio Elias Lindholm, Elias Pettersson and Nils Höglander who now played in the same chain and were successful. There were two goals for Lindholm, three assists for Pettersson and one assist for Höglander.

Elias Pettersson is now up to 72 points, 28 goals and 44 assists, in 55 games, which places him in fifth place in the NHL’s scoring league.

Another Swedish goal stood Mika Zibanejad for during the night as his New York Rangers defeated Montreal 7–4 for the team’s seventh straight win. Zibanejad was also credited with two assists in the game.
