The desire to help and donate money to Ukraine has decreased since the outbreak of war almost a year ago, but the commitment has not completely disappeared. 14-year-old William outside Karlshamn is one of those who help.
His family took over a flea market and building maintenance business. Among all the junk, 14-year-old William Åkeson found old military items that he realized could be used again.
– These are stretchers that we have donated to Ukraine and their war, says William Åkeson.
All the stretchers that fit in the truck have now been transported to the Ukrainian front via the aid organization Ukrainahjälpen. And William has continued to collect things.
– There are a lot of sleeping bags, tents, storm kitchens and things like that, says William Åkeson.
The willingness of the Swedish people to donate things and money to Ukraine was enormous during the opening months of the war. And the major aid organizations state that the interest in helping is still great, but has been scaled back over the past year.
The UN refugee agency UNHCR, for example, has collected 1.4 billion just from private donors in Sweden, since the invasion of Ukraine began. Unicef half a billion.
