In the 14th Presidential Elections in Iran, candidate of Turkish origin Massoud Pezeshkiyan continues to race ahead of conservative candidate Said Jalili. Pezeşkiyan, who received 43.5 percent of the votes, is followed by Celili with 37.7 percent of the votes.
TURKISH CANDIDATE IS AHEAD
Mohsin Islami, spokesman for the Election Center of the Iranian Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced that 14 million 70 thousand 642 votes have been counted since the ballot boxes opened at midnight. Looking at the vote distribution, Pezeşkiyan is leading the race with 43.5 percent, receiving 5 million 955 thousand 781 votes.
Celili, who has received 5 million 560 thousand 321 votes counted so far, is following with 37.7 percent.
Muhammed Bakır Kalibaf is in third place with 13.4 percent of the votes, and Mustafa Purmuhammedi is in fourth place with 0.8 percent.
50+1 VOTE RULE
Candidates must receive 50% +1 of the vote to be elected in the first round.
If no candidate exceeds 50+1 percent in the first round, the 2 candidates who receive the most votes will advance to the second round, and the winner of the second round to be held on July 5 will become the 9th President of the country.
WHO IS MESUD PEZEŞKİYAN?
It shows that Massoud Pezeshkiyan received higher votes than other candidates in regions where Turks, Kurds and Baloch people are concentrated. Speaking at a conference in the capital Tehran, Massoud Pezeshkiyan said, “I have never lied to get votes in my life and I have never shouted a wrong slogan.”
“I believe in rights and justice. The rights of women, sects and ethnicities are important to me. It doesn’t matter to me whether they are men, women, Turks, Kurds or Baluchis,” Pezeshkiyan said, adding that if he wins the race as the polls show, a Turkish president will serve in Iran for the first time. .
SURVEY RESULTS
In an opinion poll in Iran, reformist candidate Pezeshkian came in first with 33.1 percent of the presidential election, Celili came in second with 28.8 percent, while the other conservative candidate Qalibaf came in third with 19.1 percent.
Voting in the presidential elections, which was first announced to end at 18.00, was first extended to 20.00, then to 22.00 and then to 24.00.
