With the leading role in Christopher Nolan’s thrilling biopic Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy has reached the peak of his career. The Irish actor has just been awarded the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance. But that might not have been the end of his triumph.
Apparently Murphy is now too the new top favorite as Daniel Craig’s James Bond successor! A former 007 actor also speaks out in favor of this.
Cillian Murphy is now said to be at the top of the list of possible new Bond stars
According to The Sun, several inside sources have reported that Cillian Murphy is the current preferred candidate for the next Bond role. 007 producer Barbara Broccoli is said to have had his eye on him last year. By winning the Oscar with Oppenheimer Murphy’s Hollywood status has now skyrocketedwhich really recommends him for the secret agent position.
However, since The Sun is a tabloid where every alleged information should be questioned, this report is still far from an official confirmation and should be viewed with caution. Broccoli himself recently said that the search for a James Bond successor hasn’t even begun yet.
Pierce Brosnan also wants Cillian Murphy to be the new 007
The star is still the ideal cast as the new Bond, if an Ex-007 is anything to go by. Pierce Brosnan told the BBC at the Oscar Wilde Awards:
Cillian [Murphy] would do a great job as James Bond in Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The cards could be reshuffled behind the scenes. Whether Cillian Murphy will really embody the most famous secret agent in film history remains to be seen.
As things stand, the new James Bond film is probably… 2026 at the earliest come to the cinema. There is no information about the content yet. Apparently, after Daniel Craig, we will see a younger 007 who is still at the beginning of his espionage career. Before Murphy, Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was recently considered a hot candidate for the position.
