“Will not be close to that number”

The fuel giant Preem does not believe the Tidöpartierna’s estimate that the diesel price can be SEK 5.50 cheaper with a reduced reduction obligation.

– There is no one in the industry who believes that it will be close to that figure, says press manager Dani Backteg to Swedish daily newspaper.

He warns instead that there could be a shortage of diesel, as more fossil oil will be needed.

For its own part, Preem is investing multi-billion sums in converting its operations to fossil-free production. That strategy remains firm, despite the government’s announcement.

– The demand for fossil oil will eventually disappear and emissions must be reduced. Therefore, there is no turning back, says Dani Backteg to the newspaper.

In the short term, Preem expects to be able to sell in other markets.

– Our assessment is that the demand for quality biofuels is high on the export market.
