Are Bubs bought out by Orkla?

Bubs was a family business and was acquired by Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sweden in early 2023. Bubs is now run as a subsidiary of Orkla, which is Norwegian.

When Orkla acquired Bubs, all employees were allowed to continue working and the candy is still produced in the factory in Jönköping in Sweden.

– Bubs is a strong brand and company that gives us a good platform for continued growth in Sweden, but also in our other Nordic and Baltic countries, said Patrick Axzell, CEO at Orkla to SVT News when the deal was official.

Bubs is currently out of stock in the stores because demand is so high that production cannot keep up.

– There is a huge interest and craving for Bub’s sweets. During the last year, Bubs had a growth of almost 50 percent. Of course it’s incredibly fun, but it makes it difficult in terms of production to keep up with the high demand from consumers, says Joanna Mossberg, communications manager at Orkla, which in turn owns Bubs, to Nyheter24.

Why does everyone want to eat Swedish sweets?

Swedish candy has become a trend in social media, both nationally and internationally.

– It is enormously funny that Swedish sweets in general, and Bubs in particular, are so enormously popular. Last year, Bubs had a growth of 50 percent, so demand was high even before the #swedishcandy trend, says Joanna Mossberg and continues:

– It is proof that Bub’s focus on taste, texture and vegan ingredients is paying off. However, the flip side of this success is that unfortunately we cannot expand production at the same rapid rate as demand despite our amazing staff working around the clock. And then we understand that people start to wonder why they can’t find their favorite candy. We want everyone who wants to eat Bubs to be able to do so and hopefully we will soon catch up.

When is Bubs coming back?

Bubs will come back again when the candy is produced at the rate people are buying.

– We sell all the sweets we produce at a rapid pace. This means that some products are sometimes missing from the store. We are currently working hard to expand production in our candy factory in Jönköping following the enormous interest, but it will take a few months before we increase capacity. We produce sweets around the clock so that all favorites will soon be back on the shelf, says Joanna Mossberg.

Will Bubs stop being sold?

No, Bubs will not stop selling.

– Absolutely not! Our sweets are manufactured in Jönköping and right now we actually only sell sweets here at home in the Nordics. When we have increased production in Jönköping, we will sell sweets to more markets again.

However, Bubs does not sell any candy to the international retailers at the moment.

– Right now, however, we only sell sweets to our home markets in the Nordics, precisely because of the high demand here at home as well. Once we have expanded the capacity, we look forward to being able to sell Bub’s sweets to the rest of the world as well, says Joanna Mossberg to Nyheter24.
