Wilds broke with a question at gamescom

MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya would not have expected this: When she asked the lead developers of Monster Hunter: Wilds a harmless question at gamescom, she had no idea how difficult it would be to answer.

I was able to play the new main offshoot of the Monster Hunter series at gamescom both solo and in co-op. The demo of Monster Hunter: Wilds is, as expected, already of high quality and seems to me to be more action-packed than its predecessor.

After playing, I was allowed to ask the lead developers a few questions, which of course I did. I like to end interviews with a funny or personal question to lighten the conversation a bit towards the end.

I didn’t expect to ask the developers a “fun question” that was so difficult that we almost had to stop the interview! That’s what I want to tell you here. You’ll get the rest and more serious part of the interview tomorrow on MeinMMO.

Here is the question:

You’ve probably seen that the Steam community tagged your game as a “Dating Simulator” because of the blonde blacksmith. Now I’m wondering, if Monster Hunter really was a dating simulator, which monsters would you send on a date with each other?

Here you can find the background to the question:

Between power couple and romantic spider

Now imagine that three developers are sitting in front of me, bursting into loud laughter. The PR and the interpreter also join in the laughter.

But the laughter doesn’t last long. Suddenly I see serious faces, even furrowing their brows. Hands are brought to the chin in the perfect thinking pose.

After careful consideration, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto came to the conclusion that Rathalos and Rathian are the “power couple” for the entire series.

However, I don’t accept the answer because it’s far too obvious. The two wyverns have long been known as the couple in Monster Hunter and would perhaps even become the flagship monsters of the dating sim.

Game Director Yuya Tokuda interjects: Of the new monsters, Lala Barina would definitely be romantic. It’s a really difficult last question!

Whether you find La La Barina romantic or not is something everyone should decide for themselves.

La La Barina is a new monster making its first appearance in Wilds. This monster builds its nest in the Scarlet Forest and moves with grace, mimicking the appearance of a blooming rose.

This is of course quite appropriate for a dating sim, but we still haven’t had a couple.

PR employee Ian is starting to get nervous. The next people to talk to are already waiting for their interview with the lead developers. Ian assures me that he didn’t see the three of them being that serious during the whole Gamescom.

I take one last questioning look at the group of developers and see how they are still rummaging through their entire monster catalog in their heads.

After some discussion between the developers, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto comes up with the answer: Zinogre and Mizutsune.

For the chief developers of Monster Hunter Wilds, the dream couple for the dating sim: Mizutsune on the left and Zinogre on the right.

So now we know which monsters would go on a dream date together!

So we started with the really relevant information and I’ll now process the rest of the interview. Among other things, we talk about Monster Hunter as a complete service game and conflicts between newcomers and people who have been playing Monster Hunter for a long time.

Until then, take a look at our list of weapons for Monster Hunter Wilds and maybe you’ll find a favorite. Personally, I prefer the hammer for some powerful arguments.
