“I deeply regret that the victory of Spanish women’s football has been damaged by the inappropriate behavior that our until now supreme director Luis Rubiales has stood for and even admitted,” he writes in a statement according to the newspaper Marca.
“There is no doubt that it is unacceptable and in no way reflects the principles and values that I stand for in life, in sport in general and football in particular”.
Vilda, who was offered a contract extension by Rubiales in connection with his defense speech on Friday, also says:
“It has created a climate that is in every way undesirable, far from what would have been a great celebration for Spanish sport and for women’s sport”.
Earlier on Saturday, it was announced that the coaching staff around Jorge Vilda is choosing to resign in protest against Rubiales.
