When did Björn Borg start playing tennis?
Björn Borg started playing tennis when he was eight years old, and developed quickly. During his early years, he often stood and rubbed against the garage door below the family home in Södertälje.
The garage protege became world famous and was auctioned off in SVT’s Antikrundan in 2014 and sold for SEK 150,000, wrote The Express in connection with the sale.
As a 15-year-old, Björn Borg dropped out of ninth grade at Blombacka School to focus wholeheartedly on tennis. In the same year, he was selected for the Davis Cup and played one of the singles matches against New Zealand. Björn Borg ended his tennis career in 1982, when he was only 26 years old. The decision to retire came after the Wimbledon final against John McEnroe 1981, which the Swede lost.
In his memoirs, Björn Borg wrote that it was then that he began to think that it was no longer fun. The motivation was gone.
– It is tough to be world number one. You have no privacy at all and cannot move freely. That was one of the reasons why I lost my motivation, he has said in a previous interview with Daily Telegraph.

Björn Borg has been married for over 20 years to his wife Patricia Borg. The couple got married on Värmdö in 2002, and have been dating steadily ever since.
