Widespread rumor that the Hagamannen drives a taxi in Umeå – we know this

The serial rapist Hagamannen terrorized Umeå for several years. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for two attempted murders, two counts of aggravated rape, rape and attempted rape. In 2015 he was released.

After he left prison, he was beaten. Now he lives in an unknown location with a protected identity.

Over the years there have been many rumors about where he lives and what he does. During the autumn, a claim that he drives a taxi in Umeå has been very widely spread. A profile on Tiktok with tens of thousands of followers has spread the information in a video that has received 65,000 views and hundreds of comments. And in Umeå, a post on Facebook has gone viral.

“Driving in false name”

It is mainly one person’s posts that have been widely circulated. A woman claims that she is in contact with several people who took a taxi with the Hagaman. She believes that he drives a taxi under a false identity. But taxi drivers SVT spoke to say that is not true.

– Why would we risk everything by letting him drive. There are more people who can drive black in that case, says a driver SVT spoke to.

– The drivers know each other, it would be discovered quickly, says a representative of a large taxi company in Umeå.

Credible authority sources also tell SVT that the rumor is not true.

SVT has been in contact with the woman who spread the information. But she claims that none of the people she spoke to want to talk to SVT and when we ask for more information, she stops responding to our messages.

Extensive investigation into Uber

The company Uber has added an extensive investigation into the claim and believes that there is no truth in the rumours.

“Safety is our highest priority. We have therefore started an extensive investigation into this and have, among other things, had a dialogue with the Swedish Transport Agency, which is responsible for issuing taxi driver identification cards for all Swedish taxi drivers. We have not been able to find any evidence in these rumours,” the company writes in a comment.

In the video above, SVT Nyheter’s reporter Per-Anders Fredriksson finds out if the rumor is actually true about the claim.
