Why you shouldnt miss Cristobal Balenciaga the series which traces

A true visionary, fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga revolutionized women’s silhouettes. Today, the Disney + platform is dedicating an event series to it.

He is one of the most famous fashion designers. Fifty-two years after his death, Cristóbal Balenciaga is entitled to his own biographical series. Created by Lourdes Iglesias and by directors Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, the show begins when the man nicknamed “the Spanish master” presented his first haute couture collection in Paris in 1937. Eclipsed by Chanel, Dior And GivenchyCristóbal Balenciaga, played by the actor Alberto San Juan, does not meet with the success to which he was accustomed until now in Spain. Forced to reinvent himself, he then became the avant-garde couturier who would revolutionize the female silhouette. Nearly a century later, Cristóbal Balenciaga is still one of the most influential artists of his generation.

A five-star team

To pay homage to the “couturier of couturiers”, Disney++ did not hesitate to hire a crack team. Around Alberto San Juan, a high-level casting will be resurrected Audrey Hepburn (Anne-Victoire Olivier), Christian Dior (Patrice Thibaud), Coco Chanel (Anouk Grinberg) or the model Colette (Nine d’Urso, the daughter of Ines de la Fressange).

Essential to the success of a series on fashion, costumes spotted in Cristobal Balenciaga were created by Bina Daigeler. The German has already been appointed to Oscars for his work on live action Mulan and to Emmy Awards for the mini series Mrs America. Did the Balenciaga house, currently headed by the Georgian Demna, allow him to consult the label’s archives? Still, the costume designer knew how to reproduce the aesthetic of the time to perfection. It is the composer Alberto Iglesias, 11 times winner of the Goya (the Spanish Césars), nominated four times for the Oscars, three times for the Baftas and twice for the Golden Globes, who was responsible for composing the soundtrack for the series. Exclusively broadcast on the streaming platform Disney+, Cristobal Balenciaga will be available on January 19, 2024.
