Why the conversation about data should not only be held in Silicon Valley, but also in the Utrecht library

Why the conversation about data should not only be held

Utrecht – In the polder just outside the city of Utrecht there is a large steel block box, on a desolate site with only some air vents as oxygen. Here, in Groenekan, people walk or cycle past every day, without realizing that millions – nay billions – of selfies, Facebook likes, digital purchases and Instagram messages are ‘floating’ in this data centre. HU lecturer Levien Nordeman would like things to be different, and argues for what he calls “more data literacy”. He wrote a book about it: The Mirror Palace of data.
