The National Rally lifted the veil this week on its program in the event of victory on July 7 in the legislative elections. The first measure taken if Jordan Bardella were to arrive at Matignon: the reduction in VAT from 20 to 5.5% on energy. But a large part of Marine Le Pen’s program for the 2022 presidential election would not be implemented, at least not immediately.

Jordan Bardella calls this “the second phase”. A large part of the program of the National Rally (RN) that his boss postpones forever if he arrives at Matignon. From the abolition of income tax for those under 30, the effectiveness of which is highly contested, to the ban on wearing the veil in public spaces, including the very costly suspension of VAT on basic necessities, lists Pierrick Bonnofrom the political service.
Time delay
While it is at the gates of power, the RN is delaying and retreating, say its adversaries. For what ? First there is the financing argument: Jordan Bardella says he needs an audit of state accounts to identify the savings essential for certain measures. Then there is the legal argument. Part of the far-right program, particularly on immigration and the fight against Islamism, would require a reform of the Constitution. Impossible without the approval of the President of the Republic, repeat the RN executives.
This strategy has at least two advantages: it reduces the risks of failure for Jordan Bardella in the event of cohabitation and encourages voters to vote Marine Le Pen in 2027, if they want to see what happens next.
