In a video, the singer defends the rural schools of Allier, a department that is dear to him. 29 teaching posts are threatened with closure at the next school year 2023 according to a school map project.
From the start of the school year in September 2023, many classes are threatened with closure due to a new school map project. This is particularly the case for some Allier schools, a department dear to Gilbert Montagne who lives there part of the year, and who spent several summers during his childhood. The singer made a point of expressing himself on this subject “which is close to his heart” to sensitize the government as well as the parents to the risk of closure of small rural classes.
Teaching posts cut at the start of the school year in rural municipalities
In effect, 29 teaching positions could soon be eliminated in this department, and in particular in the schools of Saint-Léon, Sorbier, Diou, Thiel-sur-Accolin, or even Chassenard… Teacher unions, local elected officials and parents are mobilizing to defend rural schools. “Let us remember that the children of today are the adults of tomorrow. It is important not to close schools in the villages of this beautiful department. The solution, I don’t have it, but what I do know is that it is not possible to accept such a situation” added Gilbert Montagné who calls on parents to mobilize.
Many other rural departments and municipalities, such as Dordogne, Aude or even Pas-de-Calais, Guingamp and Paimpol or even Ariège… are affected by class closures due to the new school map which should be unveiled on March 9.
