Why do so few talents move on at FC Utrecht? ‘Top 3 violates gentlemen’s agreement’

Why do so few talents move on at FC Utrecht

Since 2018, FC Utrecht’s training has only supplied two basic players to the first team: Gyrano Kerk and Tommy St. Jago. Maarten Paes also moved on from Jong FC Utrecht, but he only switched from NEC to FC Utrecht when he was 19 and is therefore not considered a self-trained player. This applies to Chris Mamengi, Nick Venema, Ody Velanas, Fabian de Keijzer, Thijmen Nijhuis, Djevencio van der Kust and Derensili Sanches Fernandes. They were part of the A-selection but did not break through and are now playing elsewhere. Tommy St. Jago, initially a basic player, has now left for Willem II after a long injury scare that followed a good first season.
