Since the beginning of November, Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and other members of the British royal family have worn a small red flower as a buttonhole. A brooch full of meaning.
Could this be the new star accessory of fall? Since the first days of November, a little red flower decorates the clothes of Kate Middleton and other members of the British royal family.
On the Princess of Wales’ Barbour x Alexa Chung khaki jacket, or on the black silk blazer Giorgio Armani by Meghan Markle, this funny piece of jewelry hangs just above the heart. A flower that Prince Harry also wore on his suit during his visit to the military and veterans of California, November 8, 2023.
A brooch as a tribute
And it’s not out of a sense of style that members of the British royal family wear this badge. It actually represents a “poppy”a little poppy, and has a very particular symbolism in the United Kingdom. This is the equivalent of French “blueberry”emblem of remembrance of the First World War. For over a hundred years, from the end of October until Remembrance Day, Armistice Day, the British surrender tribute to the victims of war thanks to this wild flower. The choice of the poppy is full of meaning. The Royal British Legion, behind this campaign, was inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields(On the field of honor) written by Lt. Col. John McCrae. The war doctor recounts that red poppies bloomed on the graves of soldiers in Europe. All members of the royal family therefore follow this annual commemorative tradition. Paper poppies, made by disabled workers, are also sold in the streets. The funds are used to help veterans and their families. Quite a symbol then.
