With or without commitment, the mobile plans that we use in daily life work in much the same way. They allow you to call (sometimes even abroad), send unlimited text messages or even access the internet thanks to 3G and 4G connections.

[EN VIDÉO] Kézako: how does a mobile phone network work? Every day thousands of calls are made in France from a mobile phone. But the main difference between these two types of subscription lies in their pricing policy and especially the method of subscription. Today, Futura’s reaction took a closer look at the advantages provided by the non-binding package, a freedom formula that does not bind you to a contract for several long months…
What is a non-binding package?
As its name quite clearly suggests, the mobile plan without commitment is characterized by the absence of a deadline before considering a possible termination. As a user, this does not oblige you to keep the same subscription (even if it does not suit your real needs or represents too large a budget) for a contractual period of 12 months or 24 months.
This type of subscription is not subject to any mandatory subscription period and you can choose at any time to change the plan or even to select the offer of a competitor without being charged termination fees for ending the contract early!
What are the benefits of a non-binding package?
First of all, the freedom to change service whenever you want without having to calculate according to the subscription date. This total autonomy gives you the opportunity to stay tuned to the best offers and to upgrade your mobile plan without being embarrassed by mandatory subscription periods.
Another significant advantage is the price. During their heyday, the plans with commitment offered by the major operators also included offers to buy a smartphone at a preferential price. But this advantage generally implied a slightly higher monthly budget to pay for the mobile plan and the new phone. Today, with regular promotions and countless models on sale, it is quite possible to acquire a high quality smartphone at a reasonable price without it being included in monthly payments of 40 or 50 € . In the long run, this payment device makes you pay the phone much more expensive than if you bought it independently.
How to choose your non-binding package?
Even if the monthly cost and the possibility of changing the plan at any time are very convincing arguments, it is still important to ask yourself a few questions in order to choose the no-commitment phone plan that suits you best.
- Data: if you are a big consumer of online content (social networks, videos, streaming…), the volume of data included in the package must be taken into consideration. Indeed, a cheap subscription but with only 10 GB of data would certainly not be enough…
- Calls, SMS and MMS: although many packages offer unlimited plans for calls and messages, this is not always the case. It is therefore advisable to check this information before subscribing to a new offer in order to avoid unpleasant surprises and additional invoices.
- The mobile coverage : finally, we also advise you to use a service such as the one offered by Arcep (Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Posts and Press Distribution) to ensure that the package you are interested in is correctly provided where you live. This anticipation will thus avoid connection and network problems.
Are you planning to change mobile operator? Rest assured, thanks to the portability you will keep your current number and your contacts will be able to continue to reach you!
