Why Can’t Indiana Jones Kill Dogs?

Why Cant Indiana Jones Kill Dogs

In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, players are not allowed to kill dogs. There is a reason behind this related to the character’s past.

Indiana Jones is one of the most iconic characters in cinema history. An intelligent, charismatic hero who is carried away by adventure. The Great Circle gamefills in the gaps in Indiana Jones’ story and deepens the character.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is More Than an Action Game

Contrary to expectations, The Great Circle is not a pure action game. Even though there are fighting and action scenes, stealth is at the forefront in areas where there are enemies. Indiana Jones killed a lot of people in his movies. But even for him there is a line that should not be crossed.

In the game, some enemies patrol with dogs. Indiana Jones can’t hurt these dogs. He cannot shoot or damage them. Instead, one has to sneak around them or scare them with a whip and gun. There’s a good reason for this.

Having Indiana Jones start slaughtering dogs like Ellie in The Last of Us Part 2 would not only be tonal, it would go against his love of dogs. In the movie The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones’ real name is Henry Jones Jr., taken from his father. It turns out that he got the nickname “Indiana” from his childhood dog.

In the book Indiana Jones and the Dinosaur Eggs, Indy states that this dog was his best friend and that he cannot get over its death. After encountering a snake in the game, he jokes, “I’m more of a dog person.”

Considering all this, it makes sense that Indiana Jones wouldn’t hurt a dog. He had great affection for his own dog and would be saddened to harm another dog. It’s a respectful touch added by MachineGames, who previously chronicled the moment of shooting a dog in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
