Local residents are now pinning their hopes on VVD councilor and committee spokesman Gertjan te Hoonte, who is committed to the playground. Last month, Te Hoonte raised the issue when, together with councilor Maartje Vermeulen of Groenlinks, he asked the council to reconsider the decision to dismantle the play facility on the Lauwerhof. “In a conversation with the alderman, I want to clarify why the playground needs to go. Apart from this playground, there is no play area in the Breedstraatbuurt, and small children have the right to play in the city center,” explains Te Hoonte.
